"The Animal"

Birthday Bash

Saturday, January 29th was Reed's 7th Birthday. Trent will turn 11 on February 7th. We had a birthday party today for the both of them. Trent and Reed wanted a Dayton Flyers themed party and cake, and this mom was happy to oblige. Grandpa and Grandma Suchland, Braeden, Jace, Alex, Annette, Rod and Grey, and Dina, Brad and their kids attended the party. After opening presents, we had pizza for dinner followed by cake and ice cream in the evening. Trent and Reed enjoyed themselves and declared it another fun birthday. Those present even got to witness full on "Sugar Brain". You didn't think we made that up about Reed being hyper, did you? He was excited all day but the cake and ice cream pushed him over the edge. So much for us telling him that seven year olds were more grown up and mature! Oh well, he wouldn't be our Reed if he was any other way! Happy Birthday boys!

Rascal Flatts

For our anniversary in December, Steve surprised me with tickets to Rascal Flatts, one of my favorite groups. The concert was on Friday, January 28th at the Nutter Center. In addition to Rascal Flatts, Chris Young and Luke Bryan also performed. It was a great show, and we had a nice time. It was the first concert I attended since Steve and I went to John Mellencamp at the Nutter Center when we were dating or newly married.

Before the concert, Steve and I had plans to go to Red Robin to dinner. When we got out to the Fairfield Mall area, we found out that the 10,000 plus people attending the concert had the same idea! Every restaurant was packed. We worried that we wouldn't have time for dinner and still be able to get to the concert on time. Then, we saw Subbys. There was only one car in the lot. We decided to just eat there. Afterward, I teased Steve about how he takes me to the fanciest places. He said on our next date he may step it up a notch and take me to Penn Station. I can hardly wait!

Bowling Bonanza

We spent part of Martin Luther King Day at the bowling alley. Reed and Riley bumper bowled. Bumpers or not, Reed had "the moves". He won all three games (by a very large margin). Being left handed may have its advantages after all!

How can it be my birthday again???

When you are a kid, you look forward to it. You hope and pray that there isn't a snow storm coming that is going to delay your party (not that that ever happened). When you are turning 39, not so much. I keep wondering how I can possibly be 39 already. I don't feel 39. Next year is going to be a tough one. I haven't really accepted that fact that I am in my thirties (don't laugh), so forty isn't going to be pretty. Steve doesn't let age bother him. There is a lesson there that I just can't seem to learn.

Despite my lack of enthusiasm about it, my birthday was nice. Since it was a Friday, I worked as usual. After work, we all went out to dinner and then to the mall. Steve took the boys to the Guitar Center while Riley and I browsed a few stores. It was then home for ice cream cake from Cold Stone. Before I blew out the candles, I stopped just a moment to think about what I would wish. Of course, there are things I want, but the things that matter most to me were surrounding me at that very minute. Maybe 39 isn't so bad after all!
